CHATSWORTH HOUSE and the PEAK DISTRICT
Enjoy the peace and tranquillity as we travel through some of England's
finest scenery with high limestone peaks and snake like gorges. Add
to this a visit to the impressive Chatsworth House and a ride on the
Rowsley to Matlock Steam Railway and this tour has something for everyone.
We leave Cumbria travelling by Richmond for a coffee stop before having
lunch in Chesterfield a town famous for its crooked spire but also a
little gem with its wide open market place. We arrive at our hotel
late afternoon. Dinner in the hotel
We travel through Snake Pass and reach the High Peaks, overlooking
Ladybower Reservoir where the Dambusters trained for their famous WW2
Mission. Further on is the Derwent Reservoir where the ruins of the
Derwent Village is hidden beneath. We carry on to Eyam the plague
village from 1665 with its museum and finally passing the imposing
ruins of Peveril Castle dating back to 1176 we reach the village of
Castleton home to the legendary Blue John Caverns. We return to the
hotel for Dinner.
We visit Denby Pottery in the morning and stop for coffee on our way to
the Steam Railway from Rowsley to Matlock. We have time for lunch in
Matlock before we make the short journey to Matlock Bath where we
have a short stop giving you the chance to take the Cable car up to
the Heights of Abraham or explore the local shops and attractions. We
return to the hotel for Dinner.
We journey to Bakewell for a visit where we have time for coffee and
take time to visit the Old Pudding Shop and maybe sample one of the
famous Bakewell Tarts. It is a short journey to Chatsworth House one
of the finest stately homes in England. You will have plenty of time
to explore the house and gardens and to eat in one of the restaurants
and tea shops. We make a short stop in Buxton on our return journey
to the hotel where Dinner is served tonight
We return home to Cumbria making coffee and lunch stops en route
arriving home late afternoon.
The Hallmark Mickleover Hotel Derby occupies a quiet location on the
