CASTLE TALES AND WHISKY TRAILS

Join us as we venture to an area of the United Kingdom much loved by the Royals and public alike.
Deeside is not only loved for its delicate beauty but also for its regal history with more castles per square mile than anywhere else in the UK. Nearby there is the world known as the Whisky Trail with 9 distilleries set against a backdrop of rolling mountain scenery. This tour blends whisky with a visit to two of our most famous castles including the summer royal residence of Balmoral.

Day One
A morning departure sees us head North to Moffat for Coffee before we continue onto our lunch stop near Stirling. Our journey continues via Perth and Dundee with a comfort stop en route before we arrive at our hotel The Altens Aberdeen which is located on the outskirts of the City where Dinner is served.

Day Two
We venture into Royal Deeside much loved for its highland landscape and peaceful countryside. We arrive at Balmoral the Queen's highland residence nestled in the shadows of Lochnagar. An included audio guide aids
our visit as we explore the house and gardens. We leave mid afternoon calling at Crathie Kirk on our way to Ballater where we have time to explore the pretty Deeside town. We return to our hotel where Dinner is served.

Day Three
We head through rolling Grampian countryside to the area known as the Whisky Trail. We have a visit to distillery with a guided tour and tasting before we continue onto Elgin for a late lunch. We then journey along the Moray coastline passing fishing villages as we head to Banff for a short break. We return to Aberdeen via Turriff and Fyvie Castle arriving back in time for Dinner.

Day Four
Today our castle trail starts in Banchory where we have a guided tour of the 700 year old Drum Castle and gardens. Hear stories of Robert the Bruce and see the famous library with its over 4,000 books then wander through the scented gardens and through the woodland home to Deer, Red Squirrels and Badgers. We continue our journey passing many other castles and fortifications before we drive along the coastline to Aberdeen which
itself has some 8 miles of coast and beaches. We spend time in the Granite City where there is much to do and see. We return tom our hotel for Dinner.

Day Five
We depart and take a scenic drive through Stonehaven, Arbroath and Montrose to Dundee for a coffee stop. We continue onto Stirling for lunch with time to explore. We continue South arriving back in to Cumbria early evening.

Our Hotel
A modern hotel just three miles south of the Granite City, The Aberdeen Altens Hotel is one of the most popular business and conference centres in the area.
