This area of Scotland can sometimes be by passed but there is here real gems of countryside, rugged shorelines and sandy beaches and a fair share of historic houses and gardens. The gulf stream warms this coast and the plants and vegetation on view are testament to that. We visit Jails, take a cruise and take a ferry to an Island. Our base is in Dunoon often used by cruise ships as a starting or end point of their voyages.
We leave Cumbria early morning and head to Southern Scotland making a Coffee stop near Dumfries. We then continue through the Forest of Galloway heading up the valley to Ayr where we stop for lunch with free time to explore. Later we continue on to Dunoon and our hotel where we have a welcome drink. Dinner is served tonight.
Following breakfast we have a full day tour, we travel over the Erskine Bridge calling firstly at Lomond Shores where we have some free time before we board our boat for an included cruise on Loch Lomond. We then travel via Tarbet to Inveraray where we explore the town before an included visit to the award winning Inveraray Jail, upon release we return to our hotel for afternoon tea. Dinner in the hotel tonight.
After breakfast we head to Wemyss Bay to join our CalMac ferry to the Isle of Bute where we spend the day exploring the island an visiting Mount Stuart House and Gardens. Later in the afternoon we catch our return ferry back to the mainland.Dinner in the hotel tonight.
Breakfast is followed by a drive along the Campsie Hills through Drymen and onto the historic City of Stirling where we have free time to visit the many attractions on offer. We return to our hotel for Dinner.
Sadly after breakfast we leave our hosts to begin the journey home. We head along The Firth of Clyde to Glasgow where we stop for lunch and with free time to look around this fast improving City. Our journey South continues in the afternoon with comfort stop en route arriving back in Cumbria late afternoon.
