Cars, Churchill and the Cotswolds
Sun 09 September 2018
Our base at the Whately Hall Hotel, Banbury offers a superb location as we offer a trio of great British classic destinations including Blenheim Palace, beautiful Cotswold villages and the British Motor Museum. A journey through time is coupled with the charm of the Cotswolds.
A morning departure from Cumbria sees us stop at Barton Grange for Coffee with free time to look around this popular centre. We continue to Lichfield for lunch with free time to explore the Market place or perhaps the Cathedral or just relax by the lake. We continue our journey to Banbury and our hotel arriving late afternoon to complimentary Tea/Coffee and Biscuits, Dinner is served tonight.
After breakfast we travel to Blenheim Palace the childhood home of Winston Churchill and the ancestral residence of the Dukes of Marlborough. We enjoy a 40 minute guided tour of the Palace after which we have time to browse the Churchill and untold story exhibition. We spend time in the grounds designed by Capability Brown perhaps visiting the Butterfly House, the Italian Garden, the Lavender Garden or Water Terraces. After lunch in one of the restaurants we make the short journey to Oxford City of Dreaming Spires where we have the afternoon free. We return to our hotel in time to freshen up for Dinner.
Following breakfast we experience the sights, sounds and stories of the British Motor Museum. Take a walk down the road of time and see how motoring has changed over the years. Enjoy the behind the scenes sights and discover the 250 vehicles on view. In the afternoon we visit Warwick where we have free time to look around. Perhaps head for the Market Place and the High Street or visit the Castle. We return to our hotel for Dinner.
A full day tour follows breakfast as we take to the lovely Cotswold countryside. We visit all the popular places of Moreton in the Marsh, Broadway and Bourton on the Water. This is quintessential England with Elizabethan Houses and trimmed verges and hedge rows. Dinner is served in the hotel tonight.
We leave our hosts after breakfast and start our return journey we firstly stop at the National Arboretum where there is free time to look around. Lunch is taken in Manchester as we stop at the Imperial War Museum North which gives access to the Lowry Centre. We complete our journey home arriving back late afternoon.
